The Integration of TB in Education and Care for HIV/ AIDS (ITEACH) improves HIV and TB care and treatment in South Africa’s public health sector. ITEACH has operated from Edendale Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa since 2005. ITEACH works in close collaboration with the uMgungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health, and key community stakeholders, such as traditional Zulu healers to provide training on HIV and TB treatment and prevention to health care providers.
My Role
Program Lead and Data Manager (2007-2008)
Designed and coordinated a groundbreaking pilot program for AIDS drug therapy in TB patients, successfully replicated in multiple settings due to its efficacy.
Supervised a 10-member team in a study on home-based care for ARVs and tuberculosis treatment, ensuring strict protocol adherence and enhancing treatment efficacy.
Led data collection and analysis to address diagnostic and treatment gaps in tuberculosis, resulting in improved treatment strategies and patient outcomes.
Presented innovative pilot programs to hospital staff, current funders, and potential donors, effectively communicating program benefits and securing ongoing support for project expansion.
